Wearing The Badge

If you are looking for a rugby fix this weekend there is no substitute for the excitement of the Six Nations, but we can at least reflect on our rugby tour in Italy.

Producing the documentary taught us how rugby and being on tour can be a wonderful platform for personal development, both on and off the pitch. The hotel in Lido Di Jesolo and the evening format set the scene for what was expected of the boys and it was interesting filming them over the course of the tour. They were each provided with Scotland tracksuits and in every way they took on the responsibility of wearing the badge. Each rugby game began with the team being piped onto the pitch and you could see the pride in their adolescent faces.

It was difficult to believe that the rowdy mob we suffered travelling with could take on the concept of respectful good behaviour with such enthusiasm but they were an absolute joy wherever they went and the Italian rugby clubs loved them.

This is reality, however, and the teenage boy on tour wasn’t completely extinct. They could never resist the amusement of shouting “bella bella” at our female tour guide!!
