HMS Ocean

A client of ours makes many forms of hydraulic lifts; the most famous perhaps being the Tower Bridge opening mechanism in London.

Another product is the aircraft lift used to transport helicopters from deck to deck on ships around the world. Built in Glasgow, the helicopter carrier HMS Ocean was fitted out in Barrow and some of our crew were involved at this stage in filming the installation of the aircraft lift.

It was fascinating to see in computer simulation just how critical the design of a ship is in order to ensure that helicopters can be moved about effectively and quickly on board: from below deck for servicing to the upper deck for operation.

It was also good to be gifted with an insight into the largest ship currently serving in the Royal Navy and witness a piece of British naval history.
